AURORA

Mixing frosty electronic textures, spare beats, and clear, emotive vocals, Norwegian singer/songwriter AURORA works in a similar dark pop milieu as artists like Lykke Li and Lorde. Born Aurora Aksnes near the city of Bergen, she began writing music and lyrics at a young age, releasing her debut single, "Awakening," in late 2013. Honing her live show and building on the momentum from the song, AURORA issued the follow-up single "Under Stars" in late 2014 and announced that she had signed with American label Glassnote. Her debut EP, "Running with the Wolves," was released in the spring of 2015.

Tove Lo

Crafting an idiosyncratic blend of pop influenced as much by 80's pop as by contemporary EDM and coupled with raw, brutally honest lyrics, Tove Lo made a name for herself as an award-winning performer and Grammy-nominated songwriter. Her honest, complex and autobiographical lyrical content has led to her being dubbed "the saddest girl in Sweden." In 2013, Lo was signed to Universal Music, Island and Polydor. The following year, Lo rose to fame with her debut album, Queen of the Clouds, which opened at number 14 on the US Billboard 200 chart in October 2014. It spawned the sleeper hit single "Habits (Stay High)," which peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100.

London Grammar

English trio London Grammar combine sparse electronic pop in the model of the xx with dramatic, big-voiced lead singer Hannah Reid's vocals, which evoke Annie Lennox and contemporaries like Florence Welch and Natasha Kan of Bat For Lashes. Reid and guitarist Dan Rothman met in the dorms of Nottingham University, where they began writing music together in 2009 and later added multi-instrumentalist Dot Major to complete the lineup. The folling years saw them refine their sound with atmospheric electronics and subtle percussion, and they often played to rooms of no more than ten people.

Wolf Alice

An evocative North London alt-rock outfit led by vocalist Ellie Rowsell, Wolf Alice deftly mixes folk, grunge, and electronics elements with vintage '90s indie rock. Formed in 2010 by Rowsell and guitarist Joff Oddie, the duo issued an eponymous EP independently before expanding into a four-piece in 2012 with the addition of drummer Joel Amey and bassist Theo Ellis. The newly minted quartet released a flurry of singles before putting out a proper debut EP, Blush, in 2013. The band's sophomore EP, Creature Songs, followed in 2014. A pair of singles arrived before the Mercury Prize nominated full-length My Love is Cool in June 2015.
