Mount Kimbie

With familiar beats underneath otherworldly productions, Mount Kimbie are arguably responsible for the birth of the term "post-dubstep." Dominic Maker and Kai Compos formed Mount Kimbie while both were attending Southbank University in London. In early 2009 they released their debut EP, Maybes. Later in the year a second EP, Sketch on Glass, appeared and was followed by remixes for the likes of the Big Pink, Foals, and the xx. Hotflush released their full-length debut, Crooks & Lovers, in 2010. Three years later, they returned with Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, an album that featured more vocals including two tracks with King Krule. In 2017, they delivered their third studio album, Love What Survives.

The xx

Atmospheric English indie pop group the xx formed in London around the talents of Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, Baria Qureshi, and Jamie Smith, when the bandmembers were still in high school. Captivating and cool, the group cites influences that run the gamut from R&B to classic alternative rock. The group's signature brand of moody, soulful indie rock first appeared on the public radar early 2009 with the single "Crystalised," which created a huge buzz among critics and fans alike. The xx released their self-titled debut LP in July that year. Later that year, Qureshi was no longer part of the group; the rest of the xx released a statement saying this was due to "personal differences."

Christian Löffler

Electronic/techno producer Christian Löffler specializes in emotive, melancholic music that feels isolated yet strangely relatable. Löffler started taking an interest in music at age 14, although instead of picking up a guitar, as his friends did, he dove straight into programming and arranging music on his computer. A lot of his sound is owed to the area he was brought up in, and where he spent most of his time: the Darß peninsula in Germany. Inside of his relatively isolated studio, Löffler taught himself to use a variety of programs and instruments, as well as collect a huge sound bank of field recordings. For the most part, Löffler created music simply because he enjoyed expressing himself.

King Krule

Name after King K. Rool, a character in the Donkey Kong series of video games, King Krule is a solo project of London-based Archy Marshall. The singer, songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist raised eyebrows with the 2010 single "Out Getting Ribs," released under the alias Zoo Kid, which showcased his distinctively raw voice. Anticipation for Marshall's first album grew, as the song earned him a spot on various high-profile "artists to watch" lists, as well as a nomination in BBC's Sound of 2013 poll. In 2013, Marshall released the first King Krule album, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon. Marshall then collaborated with his brother Jack for the relatively fluid, more electronic A New Place 2 Drown.

Jamie xx

Working with and without his Mercury Music Prize winning group the xx, Jamie xx established himself as a forward-thinking beatmaker and producer. Jamie xx began his musical career playing the drums, but after realizing he couldn't use his innovation skills on the instrument, he instead turned to the '80s Media Production Centre, which programmed his computer-based sounds onto electronic percussion pads. In 2008, he teamed up with former school friends Oliver Sim, Romy Madley Croft, and Baria Qureshi to form their band the xx, who signed to XL subsidiary Young Turks a year later and went on to record one of the most well-recieved albums of the decade with their self-titled debut.
